Tragedy at Govt. Hospital

It was shocking news in all the newspapers on 31st January, 2009. What a terrific news it was. Five infants got burnt in a fire at one of the biggest govt. hospitals in Punjab, India. They were just 5 to 10 days of age. Whose fault was it? Imagine, so many doctors, sisters, ward boys, not even a single person noticed anything in the part of the electricity and if you ask them they will say, “This is not our department” and if this is the case in their home then. No body has an answer for the parents who lost their newly born babies in the fire. Govt never took steps to improve the condition of Govt. Hospitals. It is like patients are sitting on a garbage bag. Rats all around the hospital, garbage bags can be seen and so called Doctors are waiting for their shift to get over and reach their private clinics. I mean, where we are heading in the 21st Centaury, everybody is behind money. Nobody is bother about the condition of the patient and the place where patients get treated everyday in a large number. I was not present at the place, where it all happened but when I just imaging the scenario, it horrifies me. If we get a small burn on any part of the body, it hearts and we shout and cry, what about those infants who were just born. Just imagine......Mr. Minister resigned and made himself responsible for the same and suspended the doctors but will it solve the purpose? Govt. paid Rs. 1 lakh to each of the victim's family, I mean, is it the cost of the babies? Lot of people attends Govt. hospitals just because they can not afford private so what about those. They can do nothing of their own, they are bound to go to govt. hospitals and risk their and the life of their near ones. “Jai Hind”
